Ireland 2014 – Day 3

Track for the day:

In the morning we made it down for breaky where we discovered Michael either just coming in or having hit it hard in a few short hours. At least a couple of bulmers instead of breaky and that was before we went through to the bar. I didn’t envy his head that afternoon 🙂

We took a walk back to the airfield and enjoyed the view out over the sea on the way.
After we’d re-packed and prepared to go we met a fellow aviator who was keen to espose the virtues of the Irish aviation community, some of whom we were soon to meet.

The departure from Spanish Point was interesting as we took off and immediately descended out over the water to follow the west coast around to the Aran Isles. Arguably the ultimate destination for the entire trip.

Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great so the views out over the islands weren’t going to be great.
We dropped into Connemara and topped off the fuel before heading out to Inisheer. Due to a lack of ground crew we were informed we wouldn’t be ale to T’n’G at Inishmaan, however that wouldn’t stop a low approach and go around 🙂
Finally we came to rest at Inishmoor where the ground crew seemed very pleased to see us and our aptly named mount!

Following a fresh brew and home made bread we planned the next step of our journey up into Galway and Mayo.
We passed back past Connemara and accross Lough Corrib and Lough Mask as the weather out to the west had turned dreadful. On the way we required a comfort break so we dipped into Ballina to relive the pressure, after that we just ducked straight into Sligo and decided to call it a day.

The usual tie down operation commenced and we were soon making our way through the airport to work out where we would end up for the evening.

Following some great advice from the ground crew we started making our way into Strandhill, along the way one of the aero club members stopped to offer us a lift and did no more that drive us around the town to show us the sights before dropping us right outside the hotel.

Three S’s and we wandered into town to find a watering hole for the night.
